SEGD's annual event is the only international conference focused on communication design for the built environment.

For the global community of designers, industry professionals, educators, and design clients who strive to create compelling, emotive, and information-rich environments, it is an invaluable source of inspiration, education, and networking.

New York City

As SEGD Xlab prepares to return to the City (New York City) this October we are thinking about the future of the city, and the interactive and information systems that we will be communicating with. This information graphic in FastCo provides some perspective on what could be possible. In their article Fastcodesign takes a look at possible scenarios for the city of the future in 2050.

Our Pre-lab kick-off reception will reunite new and former Xlabbers in Manhattan. The lab itself is a one-day event, and will be held this year at The Museum of the Moving Image, a media museum located in Astoria, Queens. The museum's ultra modern interiors and expanded space, designed by Brooklyn based LEESER Architects, will set the stage for dialogues and presentations on the state of all things related to digital communications in the urban environment, the state of immersive experience design, and the shaping of our spaces and places by emerging technologies.

October 3-4, 2013

Since 2008, SEGD has partnered with the Airport Sign Managers Network (ASMN) to host a yearly workshop focused specifically on the signage and visual communication issues unique to airports and transportation environments.

A Transportation Signage Workshop jointly organized by SEGD and ASMN. This workshop focuses on the complexities of airport design programs from signage and wayfinding design, planning, and management to user experience and technology. The workshop covers a wide range of topics, including technical processes and design innovation with talks from professionals engaged in airport and transportation related project management. Speakers will present sessions on topics that will inform and inspire a wide audience including designers, managers, architects and technologists.
