“Designer Mike Clare has taken the AR phenomenon to a new level with these DIY cookies that can be digitally viewed. The cookies are made with standard dough in two colours making it possible to create a small grid for coding. The dough is rolled out and made into long square stripes that can be stacked into the desired configuration. Once all the dough is stacked it can be cut into slices and backed. The final cookies come out of the over ready to eat. However once viewed through a digital camera they have a completely new life as AR markers. In this case, Clare added a simple colourful asterisks on top, kind of like digital icing.” — L.G.D.

Behaviorial economists are gaga for the idea of ‘nudges’–tiny little hacks that can help people make better decisions. For example: Making 401k’s opt-out rather than opt-in can wildly increase savings rates. Simply moving a salad bar can increase veggie consumption by 250%.
