“Lucky by All India Radio, is the viewable blood, sweat and tears of Australian based animation company ‘Dee Pee Studios’. It involves a painstaking animation technique, whereby the team paints in the air with glow sticks, frame after to frame to create entire sequences of animation, usually taking a whole night to shoot.” (Thanks to Neatorama for the blurb!) — A.M.

Flower Street Bioreactor

From Emergent Architecture: “The project is an aquarium-like bioreactor inserted into the facade of the building (our given site), which contains green algae colonies that produce oil through photosynthesis. This relief tracks along with and supports an internal lighting armature which is based on the Bio-feedback Algae Controller, invented by OriginOil in Los Angeles in July of 2009. This new type of bioreactor uses tuned LED lights which vary in color and intensity to support algae growth at different stages of development, maximizing output. A solar array, used to collect energy during the day, spirals and winds up into the branches of an adjacent tree jungle-style. This energy will be stored in a battery and used during the night to run the various systems.” — S.N.Kids download

The art of sign painting is being brought to the city of Philadelphia by artist Steve Powers. Powers along with The Mural Arts Program
will be creating giant love letters on 50 walls and rooftops along a 20 block stretch in West Philly, facing the Market elevated train. 40 local and international artists are painting all through August and the murals will be ready for all to see starting Labor Day weekend. As part of Love Letters, Powers has opened a free sign school that teaches the basics of sign making. — S.N.

“One of the world’s most iconic paintings got a caffeinated makeover recently in Sydney, Australia, when eight people recreated her image using 3,604 cups of coffee and 564 pints of milk, the Telegraph reported Tuesday. The “painting,” which measured 20 feet by 13 feet, was part of an Aussie coffee festival. Different amounts of milk were used to produce the desired effects in skin tone.” (Thanks, Slashfood Familiar Strangers dvd
